Your new role
As the result of an internal promotion, there is an opportunity for an experienced Senior Building Officer with building inspections experience to join this established team.

  • Provide technical support to assessment decisions in relation to old building consents, undertake building inspections and process building consents
  • Ensure statutory timeframes are met for compliance and other statutory functions under the Building Act 2004
  • Ensure that the Council maintains its Accreditation as a Building Consent Authority (BCA)
  • Actively participate in team decision making and support peers and managers to ensure that they and the Council are successful
  • Provide an effective, efficient service to customers (both external and internal) in order to achieve Council's levels of service, cost effectively and in a sustainable manner

What you'll need to succeed

  • Working knowledge of the New Zealand Building Act 1991 and 2004, Building Code, Weather-tightness Homes Resolution Act 2006, BCA Regulations and related legislation
  • Experience and knowledge of building design and construction, and understands remedial design review and construction methods
  • Experience in local authority regulatory functions or remedial/residential inspection preferred
  • Technical experience and competency in undertaking building inspections and processing building consents preferred
  • Ability to cope with high workloads and demands of customers
  • Strong administration, document control and file management skills including good general Microsoft Office and database management skills
  • High level of communication, presentation and relationship management skills
  • Strong prioritisation and time management skills
  • Sound judgement and interpretation skills
  • Ability to follow documented processes and procedures
  • Ability to achieve customer service excellence in a regulatory environment
  • Uses trade or professional journals to maintain knowledge of current practices, processes and products, including technology and research findings and attends regular training and self-directed learning as identified on the BCA training plans
