General Manager

A challenging yet fulfilling General Manager role for a 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.
I am working with an exciting client who loves the outdoors so much, they have built a national business around it. My client is looking for a passionate leader who can complete all aspects of building relationships, operations and management

Your new company
The business is made up of a well-respected community of 4500+ members who are active in the mountains and crags of New Zealand. They are currently looking for a General Manager to lead their small team. They have an engaging active environment and seek to provide excellent service to their clients. The organisation is extremely active and involved in the outdoors community and there is never a dull moment.

Your new role
This role is a 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. This role is predominantly based around people and leadership. Managing the national office staff, hut wardens, contractors and volunteers around the country. You will report to the Board at meetings and work with the Chair to deliver on the priorities of the Board. You will provide advice, support and resources to subcommittee conveners as required. You will also oversee all commercial and financial plans, forecasting and opportunities such as proposed events. You will be responsible for the organisation’s operations ensuring they are compliant and up to date with regulations. At its core, this role is about forming great relationships, clear communication, leadership and operational management

What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you will have worked within a similar role. You will hold:

  • Previous management experience ideally in a non-for-profit business/volunteer led organisation
  • Leadership experience and to develop a team effectively
  • A sound understanding of an outcomes-based approach to service planning and delivery
  • Solid financial skills and knowledge including profit and loss management/forecasting.
  • Proven ability to foster and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of New Zealand outdoors sector and external organisations
  • Ideally an active climber/alpine tramper with the desire to affiliated in that environment.
